ferret is a finicky eater???? plz answer!!?

my male marshall farms ferret is very finicky when it comes to eating. i have tryed wet canned ferret food and have tryed raw meat, pieces of boiled chicken, and he just turns up his nose to it. he only eats his marshall farms premium diet, he is about 8 months of age. he likes all of the Bandits ferret treats. i want to give him variety,what else could i try that he would 9 out of 10 eat and like? thanks!

Ferrets are weird when it comes to eating. They "imprint", at a young age, on what kind of food they eat. If they are fed only one kind of food as a kit, they won't eat anything else. Once they are an adult, they don't see any other food as "food"!

My ferret is the same way. Pukko is a Marshall ferret, as well. He was fed the Marshall food for a year, as according to the contract. He won't eat any other food as a treat, i.e.,chicken knuckles. My other ferret is from Path Valley, & she eats anything! I convinced Pukko to eat 8 in 1 Premium by mixing a little in the Marshall's gradually until Marshall's was totally replaced by 8 In ! Premium (I did my homework. 8 in 1 Premium was considered the best).

The only way I can think of to get your ferret to eat other things is to literally force-feed it to him! Smear a little bit of wet food in his mouth to convince him it IS edible. Keep trying 'til he eats it of his own accord. Be firm but GENTLE! Good luck!
